When you think of the phrase “career path,” the chances are that you’re thinking about the profession you’d like to do for the next couple of years/forever. However, that isn’t exactly what it means. Put simply, a career path comprises of the positions you will hold in your current profession as you advance in your field. For some people, determining/scaling in their career path is particularly easy because they just want to get infinitely promoted and receive bigger cheques. However, it isn’t quite that simple, and if you want to truly grow, you need to set out some form of strategy for yourself.

Create a five-year plan
Of course, the timeframe we’ve given is entirely optional. But, if you want to achieve those goals that you’ve set for yourself, you need to create a plan. Using that plan, you can begin to network/work your way up the corporate ladder in your current profession. This will continue until you get to where you want to be.
Discover what your personality is
Now, this one is a bit tricky because you can’t use a poor personality to excuse mediocrity. However, it is a known fact that different types of personalities are more positively inclined towards significantly larger roles. When you discover what your personality type is, you can rest assured that the path you’ve chosen for yourself is feasible. To get this done, you should take an online test from a credible source.
Check if you meet the requirements to scale
This part will help you determine how fast you can proceed. If you need a job position that requires fifteen years of experience when you only have five, that’s a major indicator. It means that you still have quite a distance to go. In the same vein, if the job needs a certain skillset that you don’t have, you’ll know where you need to put in work.
Consider your interests
Now, even if you want to get better at your job, you really should not put yourself through the hell of working a job you hate forever. So, before you start scaling and advancing in your career path, consider your interests. Check to see that you are actually interested in the upper positions and all they have to offer.

In this step, you’ll need to do your research on how much you’ll be paid at different positions and compare it to how much you’ll need to spend. If you must scale upwards properly, you should do so while considering how much money you’ll need to meet your needs
