Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai on Wednesday other that the Assemblies of God Church, Nmbare, Saminaka, be closed with immediate effect.
Others affected by the governor’s order include: Theological Seminary of Northern Nigeria (TSNN), Saminaka; Shalom Comprehensive College, Saminaka; Assemblies of God Church (Jerusalem), Saminaka; and AGC Evangelist Hospital, Saminaka.
Giving reasons for his decision, Governor El-Rufai posited that the leadership crisis rocking the churches brought about his decision to take the action.
He insisted that the leadership crisis has culminated into a breakdown of law order in the churches, raised tensions between the followers of the rival camps and enveloped students of the church-owned schools and seminary.
El-Rufai in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Samuel Aruwan, argued that, “The Kaduna State Security Council at its 15th meeting held at Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, deliberated on the leadership crisis in the Assemblies of God Church in AGC Saminaka District, Lere local government area of the state in the context of preventing threats to the peace and stability of the state.
“It was against this background that Security Council meeting reviewed previous efforts made and resolved to take precautionary steps to preserve peace, hence the decision to close down the affected churches and schools.
“If the crisis is left unchecked, the growing tension may degenerate into total breakdown of law and order in the said area, with the potential to spread to other parts of the state.”
