Over the years, out of desperation to get results as quickly as possible, people have told themselves different myths about weight loss. Some of them sound reasonable. Others sound absolutely ridiculous. Unfortunately, many people on the receiving end of those myths end up believing them. After all, we all just want a little bit of hope.

But, if you truly want to lose weight, you cannot place your entire effort on myths about weight loss. Doing so will probably lead you down a path of disappointment as you might not get the results you hope for. As such, to help put your expectations in order, here are six myths about weight loss with little to no truth in them.

  1. You only need an extremely intense workout to lose weight 

This is entirely untrue as there are other ways for you to lose weight besides subjecting your body to intense workout routines. If you truly want to lose weight and stay healthy, you need to make little adjustments to your lifestyle and then stick to them long-term. Intense fitness routines might work. However, they aren’t always sustainable for non-athletes.

  1. Carbohydrates will make you gain weight

In a manner of speaking, this is true. However, some fitness advisors make it seem as though you need to completely avoid every carbohydrate in your life. Some even go as far as saying that you should avoid anything white from rice to potatoes to yam and everything else in between. Carbohydrate does make you gain weight, but it only happens if you consume it in excess.

  1. Starvation is an excellent weight loss technique

This almost seems perfectly reasonable. After all, the less you eat, the fewer calories you have in your system, and the lower the calories, the lower your weight. Unfortunately, this isn’t entirely accurate, either. Starvation as a weight loss and management technique is not very sustainable. As a matter of fact, it could even lead to long-term weight gain because once you let yourself go, it’ll be difficult to stop eating.

  1. Completely eliminating snacks from your diet will help you lose weight

Snacks generally aren’t the problem. The problem lies in the kind of snacks you consume. If you truly want to lose weight, you can’t consume snacks that are high in salt, sugar, and fat. Instead, you can replace them with healthier alternatives like fruits and vegetables.

  1. Drinking water reduces your weight

This particular bit has become very common on the internet today. Some call it water therapy, where they drink a certain amount of water every day. Now, you can drink water to fill you up to such that you eat and snack less. However, water cannot directly contribute to your weight loss.

  1. Skipping meals is an excellent way to lose weight

Skipping meals isn’t the healthiest thing to do. Admittedly, it can be a tad difficult to maintain an excellent diet due to your lifestyle. However, if you are intentionally skipping a meal often, you’ll merely be exposing yourself to higher chances of fatigue and a loss of nutrients.
