One of the benefits of good posture is that you have better alignment and balance. This is because bad posture causes your body to shift or lean forward/backwards unnaturally. As such, your legs and your spine constantly have to work harder to support that weight. It’s a little like tilting an object on a stick too far to one side. Eventually, everything will come crashing down. With good posture, however, your legs and spine can easily carry you around.

Bad posture positions like slouching cause you to “mash” your organs together. This is because you’re bent in a certain shape all day long. It’s very much like folding a travelling bag unnaturally. The clothes inside it will inevitably squeeze together. As such, there is less space in your body for your organs to occupy, and they have to make do with what they have.

This affects your lungs, too. They won’t be able to expand to their normal capacity while taking in oxygen and you’ll have difficulty breathing. With good posture, however, you really don’t have to worry about this.

When you’re bent over, you’re constantly looking short and compressed. However, if you can stand up straight, you look a few inches taller than someone with bad posture, and your body appears slimmer too.
